Niagara At Large wrote about Niagara College’s and Brock University’s REDress Project initiatives the week of February 14-18.
Through the display of red dresses, the initiative is dedicated to raising awareness of missing and murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex and Asexual (2SLGBTQQIA+) people. This is the second year that NC and Brock have collaborated on the project, which began as an art installation by Métis artist Jamie Black at the University of Winnipeg in 2011.
Both NC and Brock will display red dresses on their campuses during the week, while a Feb .14 REDress panel event was organized by Indigenous Education at NC and Brock’s Aboriginal Student Services team.
The article includes a quote from NC’s Director of Student Services Lianne Gagnon on NC’s participation.
