A familiar location at Niagara College may be seen on the big screen in the near future.
Welland filmmaker Chris Paco used the NC library (Welland Campus) to shoot a portion of his new short film, Friend of Jamie’s. The 35-year-old filmmaker who is a Niagara College grad (2006), said he was at the College in late December to shoot the short film.
“I chose the College because I’ve kept a good relationship with them and keep in touch with some of my teachers and figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask,” said Paco.
He noted that it proved to be the perfect location to shoot the scene because the library was quiet that time of year, just before the College closed for the holidays.
“We got in and we were able to take our time and really lay out the shots … and literally shot up to the last minute,” he said.
He noted that he believes being a NC graduate proved handy in making arrangements to use the College as a set in his film.
“I think NC teachers really want to see their graduates succeed and will do what they can to help them along and I really think that was the case here.”
Paco was also recently at the Welland Stadium to shoot other scenes for Friend of Jamie’s, as featured in the Welland Tribune (click here to view).
He hopes the short film, expected to be completed by the end of July, will be shown at film festivals.
A music video Paco directed and edited for Welland-based band The Snips (Microscope) is currently up for Best Video at the Niagara Music Awards. View it here.
He is also currently working on a documentary about the band The Reason being funded through Pledge Music. View it here.
Watch out for a Grad Spotlight on Chris Paco on InsideNC later this summer.
