On March 9, The St. Catharines Standard covered Niagara College’s new Defence Systems Engineering Technology programs in a piece called ‘From light technology to defence systems: Niagara College revamps photonics for drone demand.’
The story includes commentary from NC President Sean Kennedy and Dean of Media, Trades and Technology, Duane Bender. It notes the evolution of 25 years of photonics education into the new program to meet surging demand for Canadian-made drone capabilities.
The piece positions the two-and-three-year programs as a response to Canada’s defence needs and as an opportunity for local jobs, technological innovation, and training in a growing industry.
An excerpt also ran in The Welland Tribune on March 10.
