NC’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team is proud to introduce a new learning resource for the campus community: the Days of Significance Calendar.

Developed as part of NC’s EDI Catalyst initiative, with support from NC’s Marketing and Communications teams, the Days of Significance Calendar is a centralized, accessible tool designed to support learning, reflection and awareness of meaningful cultural, religious and historical observances throughout the academic year.

EDI Catalysts are members of the NC community who lead projects aligned with the actions outlined in the College’s EDI Blueprint. Representing a range of departments, roles, lived experiences and perspectives, EDI Catalysts work collaboratively to advance equity, diversity and inclusion across the institution.

The Days of Significance Calendar was created through this initiative with the goal of helping students and employees connect better with Days of Significance topics, events and learning opportunities taking place on campus and in the community, while also providing a consistent and reliable reference point for planning and engagement.

What are Days of Significance?

Days of Significance are meaningful cultural, religious, and historical observances that recognize and celebrate the experiences and contributions of communities around the world. These dates reflect our shared human experience and encourage learning, reflection and celebration within the campus community.

About the Days of Significance Calendar

The calendar highlights key dates and months of significance throughout the year organized by academic term – fall, winter and spring – making it easy to navigate and reference at any time.

For each day or month of significance, the calendar provides:

  • The date or time period
  • The name of the day, week or month of significance
  • A definition or explanation of its meaning
  • Links to learning resources to support deeper learning and understanding

Together, these elements offer opportunities to build awareness, foster inclusion and deepen understanding across the NC community, whether through educational programming, personal reflection, community engagement or event participation.

A practical planning and learning tool

The Days of Significance Calendar is accessible to all NC students and employees and serves as both a learning resource and a practical planning tool. It can be referenced when coordinating meetings, activities and events, as well as when seeking to learn more about the significance of particular dates and observances.

The project also addressed a gap by creating an NC-owned and operated resource that is tailored to the NC community and designed to be sustainable over time. By housing the calendar on the EDI website, the College now has a flexible learning tool that can continue to evolve.

Explore the calendar

Members of the NC community are encouraged to explore the Days of Significance Calendar, engage with the learning resources provided and take part in observing these important dates throughout the year.

The EDI team would like to thank Alyssa and NC’s Marketing and Communications teams for their collaboration and support in developing the Days of Significance Calendar.
