VineRoutes highlighted Niagara College’s 25th icewine harvest in a feature exploring how students gain hands-on experience producing one of Niagara’s most celebrated wines. The article captures students harvesting frozen Vidal grapes in sub-zero conditions on Jan. 16 at the College’s on-campus vineyards.

The story includes insight from Wine Professor Gavin Robertson and Head Winemaker Allison Findlay, both alumni of the Winery and Viticulture Technician program, who emphasized the Icewine harvest as a defining, real-world learning experience and a rite of passage for students. Approximately 40 students from wine, beer and hospitality programs participated in this year’s harvest.

The article also spotlights the College’s debut of Ice Wine Strong Ale at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine Festival, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the Teaching Winery and Teaching Brewery that blends icewine with a strong ale base.
