Daniel Smeenk, reporter with Niagara Now, reported on Niagara College’s 25th icewine harvest, capturing students braving -11°C temperatures early on Jan. 16 to harvest frozen Vidal grapes at the College’s teaching winery.

The article features first- and second-year students from the Winery and Viticultural Technician programs, along with Hospitality students, gaining hands-on experience during what Wine Professor Gavin Robertson described as a demanding but formative process. In total, 40 students participated in this year’s harvest, a milestone event that has involved more than 600 students since 2000.

The story also explores the broader Niagara icewine industry and how the College’s icewine is used across campus, including at the Benchmark restaurant and the NOTL Icewine Festival, where the College debuted its Icewine Strong Ale.
