Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) will be discontinued effective January 12, 2026, prior to the start of the winter term.

AVD provided access to a virtual College Windows computer, allowing users to run software remotely from their personal devices

With the discontinuation of AVD, the College’s supported way to access required software on personal devices is Apps Anywhere. Apps Anywhere allows students to access College-licensed applications directly on their own Windows-based devices, rather than through a virtual desktop.

Please note:

  • Apps Anywhere supports Windows-based devices only
  • Apple devices and Chromebooks are not supported.
  • This requirement is outlined in the LauNCh student guide, which recommends Windows-based devices for program needs

If you require access to lab software and do not have a Windows device, you will need to be onsite. You can use the open access computers in the library at each campus to access Apps Anywhere. These devices are already configured to run the required applications.

Microsoft 365 Access:

All Niagara College students can download and use Microsoft 365 applications on up to five devices by signing into their Outlook account.
