Niagara College hairstyling and barbering students put their skills into action for a good cause during this year’s Cut-a-Thon, raising funds in support of the College’s United Way workplace campaign

.

A total of 24 students participated in the event, offering high-quality $10 haircuts to 28 clients throughout the day. Thanks to their collective efforts, the Cut-a-thon raised $302.35 for United Way Niagara.

Clients shared positive feedback, noting the welcoming environment and professionalism of the student stylists, and highlighted how evident it was that the students truly care, contributing to their amazing hairstyling work.

For students, the event offered more than hands-on experience. It was an opportunity to connect their classroom learning to meaningful community impact. Many described the day as confidence-building and inspiring.

“Seeing clients smile after their service reminds me of why I chose this profession,” shared one student. Another reflected, “I learned so much today. This event has given me so much confidence.”

Renee Winger, Hairstyling Technologist in NC’s School of Trades said the event highlights the powerful connection between technical training and community service.

“When we give our time and talent, we don’t just transform someone’s look — we transform lives, including our own,” said Winger.

There is still time to support the NC Cares Workplace Campaign and help make a difference in our community.

Employees can learn about NC’s workplace campaign, explore giving options, or donate online at niagaracollege.ca/nccares.

There are two easy ways to donate online:

  • Payroll deduction via NC’s payroll portal (one-time or recurring donations)
  • Credit card via United Way’s payment portal (select “My Gift is Part of a Workplace Campaign”)

Thank you for supporting the campaign and help make a positive impact in our community this holiday season.
