Niagara College will mark Trans Awareness Week – November 13 to 19 – with a talk to raise awareness on transgender issues and promote understanding.

November 18: From Resistance to Radiance: Narratives of Trans Activism in Canada

On Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m., NC’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Centre for Academic Excellence teams will co-host a hybrid learning event for students and employees.

From Resistance to Radiance: Narratives of Trans Activism in Canadatraces the powerful journey of trans activism and advocacy in Canadian contexts.

This talk explores the stories of individuals and communities who challenged systemic barriers, defied invisibility, and sparked transformative change across generations. Through historical snapshots and lived narratives, we’ll uncover the legacies of those who organized, protested, created space, and reimagined what justice and trans existence could look like. More than a history lesson, this is a celebration of the radiance that emerges when trans voices are not only heard but celebrated.

Join us in reflecting on how resistance became a catalyst for visibility, dignity, and liberation and how these narratives continue to inspire trans existence and joy.

Participants are welcome to join in person on the Welland Campus in AH255 or virtually through Zoom.

November 20: Transgender Day of Remembrance

Flags at both campuses will be lowered to honour the memory of trans people who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence.

Libraries and Learning Commons will feature a display from November 13 to 20 to highlight the work of trans authors and various educational resources. Be sure to stop by and also see the 2SLGBTQIA+ Subject Guide.

NC Guide to Washrooms on Campus

NC is committed to providing accessible and inclusive washrooms for all students, employees, and community members. Many changes, including renovations and signage, have been made in response to feedback from students during previous Trans Awareness Week events.

Among them is a new Guide to Washrooms on Campus which is now live on the EDI Website:

Learning Resources & Guides | Equity, Diversity and Inclusion | Niagara College.

The Guide explains each type of washroom and its features. The locations of gendered, single-user gender neutral, and accessible washrooms can be found here: www.niagaracollege.ca/edi/faq/campus

If you are looking to learn more about the types of washrooms available on campus, please visit the Washroom List available on the EDI website.
