Niagara College’s Institute for Global Education and Training continues to expand international partnerships and offer transformative learning experiences.
Over the course of 2025, 375 students from 20 countries will have participated in immersive customized programs. These students are part of 37 groups–26 from returning partners and 11 from new partnerships.
Programs range from English Language Studies to customized training in areas such as Applied Research and Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), Hospitality and Tourism, Human Resources, Sustainability, Technology, Trades, and more.
“Our programs create meaningful learning opportunities that connect global learners with NC’s expertise,” says Joanne Maltby, Associate Director, Global Customized Training & Consulting. “Each program is carefully designed to meet the unique goals of our partners and learners, supporting their academic growth and professional development. It also provides opportunities for NC students, staff and faculty to meet and learn about various cultures and academic perspectives.”
Here is a snapshot of NC’s customized training and programs in 2025 to date.
English Language Studies
English for Academic Preparation (EAP)
In the Spring term, NC welcomed two groups from Japan: 14 students from new partner Soka University and 15 from long-time partner Kansai Gaidai University. Earlier in March, a new contract with Kansai University brought five students to the Short-Term EAP program who are transitioning to postsecondary studies at NC this fall.
Also, this fall NC is hosting five returning groups totalling 49 students — 45 from Japan’s Bukkyo University, Kinjo Gakuin University, Kansai Gaidai University, and Japan Women’s University, along with four from Korea’s Jeonju University. Additionally, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies in Japan is sending four students to NC for the first time.
English Language and Culture Program (ELCP)

The Niagara College Institute for Global Education and Training team supports students and partners from around the world.
Throughout their month-long stay, ELCP students engage in a dynamic mix of on- and off-campus activities.
In May, Niagara College welcomed ten students from Colombia, representing three institutions affiliated with NC’s new partner Red de Instituciones Técnicas, Profesionales, Tecnológicas y Universitarias Públicas (RED TTU).
July brought 29 students from South Korea: 22 from Shingu College, along with four from Sungkyul University, and three from Jeonju University. Also joining that month were 12 Colombian students from Universidad Libre, adding to the diversity of the ELCP classroom.
For the August session, 35 students from Japan arrived, representing Bukkyo University, Jissen University, Kinjo Gakuin University, and Kansai University. ISTMO University from Panama also sent one student during this period.
This Fall, NC is hosting nine students from a new partner in Ecuador, Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (UTC), which plans to send groups of students for the ELCP program in March and September each year moving forward.
Inbound Customized Training
Taoyuan Vocational Group
In February, NC hosted a two-week customized program for 22 high-achieving vocational students from Taoyuan, Taiwan. The program covered topics such as sustainability, entrepreneurship, and EDI, providing hands-on, applied learning experiences. Workshops and activities included automotive, electronics, robotics, landscape design, greenhouse activities, chocolate making, marketing, and hospitality & tourism.
Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje (INA)
In April, NC welcomed 20 electrical engineering professors from INA in Costa Rica. The week-long customized training program, in collaboration with North American Solar Academy, immersed participants in both technical knowledge and hands-on lab experience focused on solar energy transfer systems and solar installation.
Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC)
In partnership with SHS-AdC, NC welcomed its second cohort of senior high school students from Cebu, the second-largest province in the Philippines, in April. Over ten days, the students participated in the Global Explore and Canadian Education Experience Program, which included five educational workshops, visits to five universities, and a variety of cultural activities and regional excursions.
HR Consortium Mongolia
In early May, a group of 15 Human Resources (HR) professionals from the HR Consortium Mongolia took part in the Global Human Resource Leadership Program. Participants engaged with Niagara College HR students, attended hands-on workshops, and learned from local HR experts through an employer panel.
Through initiatives like these, Niagara College continues bringing the world to Niagara and fostering meaningful global connections.
