June marked ALS Awareness Month, and the Niagara College community once again stepped up to support.
More than 125 employees, students, retirees, and friends and family of Senior Vice President Pam Skinner came together to join Team NC: Pam’s Posse. Together, they raised over $14,000 in support of Canadians living with ALS through the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS, held June 1 in St. Catharines.
In March 2024, Skinner shared with the College community that she had been diagnosed with ALS. Since then, she has been rallying support and raising awareness, encouraging members of the NC community to walk alongside her and champion those affected by the disease.
“Receiving the diagnosis that I have ALS and adapting to the impacts of disease, while navigating a challenging journey, has been offset by the kind and compassionate personal support of my NC colleagues, friends and family, and by their rallying to join Team NC Pam’s Posse by donating and participating in the walk,” said Skinner. “Those donations will fund research to find a much-needed cure and support those living with ALS. I am touched and deeply grateful to be surrounded by such a caring community”
The Walk to End ALS is the largest annual fundraiser in Canada dedicated to ALS research, advocacy, and community-based support. The Niagara walk followed a scenic route along the Welland Canal, beginning at the St. Catharines Museum & Welland Canals Centre. The day ended with a post-walk barbecue at NC’s student pub, The Armoury, provided by a special donor.
Pam’s Posse has become a meaningful part of NC’s efforts to make a difference in the community while uniting colleagues, friends and families in the fight against ALS.
