The NOTL Local, Thorold Today, and Pelham Today recently featured a story about the growing efforts to support older adults across Niagara. These efforts include volunteer committees, post-secondary institutions, and the Age Friendly Niagara (AFN) initiative — a regional response to the World Health Organization’s 2007 call for more age-friendly cities and communities.
Alex Jackson, Research Project Manager at Niagara College’s Healthy Aging and Wellness Innovation Centre and a member of the AFN board, noted that the College’s involvement with AFN was a natural fit. It also highlights that NC joined the Age Friendly Universities Global Network (AFUGN) in 2019.
Jackson is quoted in the article: “The college made the decision to become accredited based on the activities it had already been engaged in for a number of years, supporting age-friendly movements.”
