Niagara College’s Indigenous Education department is inviting all employees, students, alumni and community members to help them ‘Wake up the Garden’ by coming together on Friday, May 30 to plant seedlings and spend time on the land.
Taking place at the Indigenous Garden at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake from 10 a.m. to noon, participants will learn about the basics of growing your own food and the importance of our connection to the land. Michelle Thomas, an Indigenous author and Educator, will join planters to share knowledge and to teach participants a seed song.
“There is something magical about putting your hands in the dirt and planting life,” said Aria D’alimonte, Indigenous Culture and Events Coordinator. “By coming together and spending time on the land, we can connect in ways that just can’t happen anywhere else.”
