A message from Fiona Allan, Vice President, Academic:

I’m very pleased to announce the appointment of Duane Bender as Niagara College’s Dean of Media Trades and Technology, effective June 2, 2025.

Duane will continue in his current role as Associate Dean, Technology until June, working alongside Leo Tiberi, who has served as Interim Dean, MTT since January 2023. Leo will continue to work with us until August 1 as Duane transitions into his new role.

One of Duane’s priorities in the coming months will be the recruitment of a new Associate Dean of Technology.

Duane joined the College in August 2023, bringing with him more than 20 years of experience in post-secondary education and technology management. He held various roles at Mohawk College for 16 of those years, including as a professor of Computer Science and Director of Applied Research. Duane has served as the CTO of Hamilton Health Sciences, CIO for the District School Board of Niagara and, most recently, CTO for Digital Health Partners in Hamilton where he worked on various international global health projects. Duane holds a Bachelor of Engineering and Management in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in eHealth – Applied Computer Science from McMaster University.

As Leo and Duane work together during this transition, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Leo for his leadership.

Leo rejoined NC in 2023, having worked at the College for 23 years, including as Academic Director and Dean of the Schools of Media and Design, Administrative Studies, Computer Studies, and Communications and Information Technology. Leo also served Sault College from 2008 to 2016 as Vice President, Academic and Research before entering private sector where he held executive, consultant and other various roles in the lottery and gaming, security, information technology and construction sectors.

Please join me in thanking Leo and wishing Duane well as Dean.

Fiona
