Around the anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre, Niagara College will take time to honour those who have lost their lives to gender-based violence.
Employees and students are invited to join us on December 5 at 10 a.m. for a panel event (hybrid) with community agencies that help support women who have been impacted by gender-based violence.
The panel will include individuals who will share insights into their work across the Niagara Region:

- Amanda Di Zio, Community Engagement Coordinator, Gillian’s Place
- Tricia Cosgrove, Community Outreach/ Fundraising Manager, Niagara Sexual Assault Centre
- Elaine Berwald, Liaison, Niagara Chapter of Native Women
Members of NC’s Executive Team, Senior Vice-President, College Operations, Pam Skinner, and Vice-President, Academic, Fiona Allan, will open the event with brief remarks.
This session will provide participants with the opportunity to join the sessions in a hybrid format either virtually or in-person in N018 at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

About the École Polytechnique massacre
On December 6, 1989, an armed perpetrator walked into the engineering school where he killed 14 women and injured 10 others before ending his own life.
The massacre is seen as an act of misogynist terrorism and represents broader societal violence against women.
Gender-based violence remains tragically common in Canada. On December 6, Canadians honour the memory of the victims of the Polytechnique massacre, the thousands of murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls, as well as members of the Niagara community and those around the world who we have lost to gender-based violence.
