Calling all staff and faculty with expertise in gender equality and inclusion, e-learning / digital learning, and accessibility and inclusion.
In collaboration with other Canadian Institutions, Niagara College’s Institute for Global Education and Training is submitting proposals for the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) programs: South African Skills Training Enhancement Program (SASTEP) and Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training (KBEST) Program. If awarded the projects, NC will work alongside Kenyan, South African, and Canadian partners in the following areas of focus:
KBEST: Thematic Partnership on Online and Blended Learning
The main objective is to build the capacity of KBEST partner Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in digitizing curriculum, developing digital training materials and training trainers and instructors in curriculum delivery using e-platforms. There is a strong emphasis on accessibility and ensuring that online/blended courses facilitate access for women, girls, persons with disabilities, and others who have difficulty accessing in-person training.
SASTEP: Gender Equality and Inclusion in the Classroom and on Campus
The main objective is to support gender and inclusion mainstreaming initiatives at SASTEP partner institutions through capacity building and mentorship. There is a strong emphasis on strengthening gender-responsive and inclusive teaching and assessment practices as well as practices and policies to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) in classrooms and on campuses to support all learners, in particular people living with disabilities and at-risk learners.

Estimated timeline
- Proposal submission: October 23, 2024
- Virtual interviews with partners: week of November 11 (KBEST), November 26 -28 (SASTEP)
- Workplan submission: mid-March 2025
- Start of partnership: May 2025

The KBEST Program is a seven-year, $25 million project funded by the Government of Canada. The SASTEP program is a four-year (2024-2027), $5 million project funded by the Government of Canada, in collaboration with the Vocational Education division of the Department for Higher Education and Training (DHET) in South Africa’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, SASTEP will strengthen the capacity of all 15 public TVET institutions in the two provinces to deliver inclusive, innovative, and gender-responsive programs that promote career readiness for all learners, including women and people with disabilities.
