HWAS supports student wellness with free workshops this fall

Niagara College’s Health, Wellness & Accessibility Services (HWAS) is offering a variety of programming this fall to support students through their studies and to help them make the most of their busy schedules.

Offerings include drop-in opportunities and workshops on topics designed to enhance students’ wellness, resiliency, mindfulness, time management, and more.

Highlights Include:

Succeed at College: This workshop is designed to build and enhance resilience in students. Guided by the Five Factor Model of Resilience: gratitude, optimism, self-compassion and grit, combined with mindfulness. Learning strategies on a range of topics are also covered during each session.

Offered Sept. 23 to Oct. 7 at the Welland Campus and Sept. 17 to Oct. 15 at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus.

Mindful Movement: Through this workshop series, students can take an opportunity to connect with themselves and tune into their needs through light yoga movement, breathwork, and meditation.

Offered weekly from Sept. 26 to Oct. 17 at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus.

KORU Mindfulness: A four-week mindfulness course for NC students. Developed and researched by Duke University, the program helps students learn to live with less stress and to manage life more effectively.

Offered weekly from Sept. 24 to Oct. 15 at the Welland Campus.

Managing Test Anxiety Workshop: By participating in this workshop, students will learn how to cope more effectively with test anxiety to support their success. They will learn how to identify the signs of test anxiety and how to manage it by using coping techniques; develop a wellness plan for before, during, and after the tests to reduce anxiety; feel calmer and more confident going into final exams.

Offered Oct. 1 virtually.

The Good, The Bad and The Sexy: Students can attend a presentation and discussion on contraceptives.

Offered Oct. 2 at the Welland Campus.

Self- Advocacy Workshop: Participants will learn about self-advocacy and how to communicate academic accommodation needs.

Offered Nov. 7 at both campuses.
