Following design and pre-construction work this summer, construction has begun for Project Refresh.
In the spring, the College announced the ‘prototype’ classroom and gathering spaces selected through consultations for a makeover, which include four classrooms and two student gathering areas.
“As we enter an exciting time for the College, we expect construction to be continuous, and we thank everyone for their patience as we work to transform our campuses with positive and inspiring spaces for our students,” Nadeen Shehaiber, Senior Director, Planning, Sustainability and Capital Projects (PSCP).
The PSCP team have been working with contractors through the demolition and construction work which has been delayed due to lead times with furniture delivery.
Renovations for Project Refresh will include M212 at the Welland Campus, and the Corridor C11 connecting the Student Commons to Simcoe. Due to lead times associated with furniture delivery, and to minimize the impact to academic delivery in a unique space such as L103, renovations will be deferred to Summer 2025.
At the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, N102 and W208 will be renovated as well as the Student Commons.
The classrooms will be fitted with new floor and ceilings, fresh paint, and new lights to brighten up the spaces. New technology and a variety of seating configurations will support the teaching environment and help ensure improved accessibility and facilitate active learning.
The student gathering spaces will be fit with new, modern furniture designed to invite social connection between students. In Niagara-on-the-Lake, a unique, purpose-built living wall with indoor plants will be installed to create a connection with our lush campus and provide experiential learning for students in the School of Environment and Horticulture.
Classroom spaces will come back online as they’re completed, with all expected to be available for the Winter 2025 Term.
PSCP and Facilities Management & Campus Safety continue with space improvement and other renovation work across campus. Stay tuned for further updates.
