Niagara This Week and the three Niagara dailies (St. Catharines Standard, Niagara Falls Review and Welland Tribune) reported on Niagara College’s inaugural Indigenous Student Awards banquet, June 7. The story went on to say that the guest of honour for the event was Dr. Phyllis Webstad, founder of the Orange Shirt Society and a third-generation residential school survivor.
In addition on speaking about her family’s history in the residential school system, Webstad also shared her upcoming projects from her organization to advance its pursuit of truth and reconciliation for Indigenous people of Canada.
