Pam’s Posse, a team of more than 50 NC employees, students, retirees, and friends and family of Senior Vice President Pam Skinner, raised more than $27,000 for ALS research and care at the Niagara Walk to End ALS, held Saturday, June 1 in St. Catharines.
The annual ALS Canada Walk to End ALS is the largest community fundraiser for ALS research, advocacy, and community-based services. Locally, the Niagara Walk to End ALS raised more than $166,000.
Skinner, the College’s Senior Vice President of College Operations, recently shared with the College community that she was diagnosed with ALS last summer. She remains committed to staying active in her role at NC for as long as she is able to.
“What we have here is a sea of compassion and a commitment to bring an end to this disease, and this is what will make it happen,” said Skinner, who was among the speakers at the beginning of the event. “I’m overwhelmed by the support – not only through donations, but through the kind of care I need now and will need in the future. My family, my colleagues, my friends are there to support me and I will continue to support the work of ALS and to support the raising of funds for research. I am very grateful that Niagara College supports me in the very important work that we do for students, as I am suffering from this disease.”
Following the Walk, Pam’s Posse gathered at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a barbecue sponsored by NCSAC. A raffle at the barbecue, organized by the College’s Advancement division, raised a further $800.
“I am so inspired by how our College community has come together to support Pam and so many others who suffer from ALS, just as I’m inspired by the remarkable courage and grace that Pam has shown over the past year,” said President Sean Kennedy, who also participated in the Walk.
June is ALS month. You can learn more about ALS, or support ALS research and care here. Donations to the ALS Society before July 1 via Pam’s Posse will be added to the team’s total.
