On the heels of Sikh Heritage Month in April, Niagara College is proud to offer an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and traditions of Sikh communities in Canada. Students and employees are invited to a hybrid talk and discussion featuring Kulvir Singh Gill, Board Chair at Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI), on Monday May 27 from 1 to 2 p.m. titled The Sikh Journey: Exploring Faith, Culture, and Community.
Delving into the rich tapestry of Sikh beliefs, participants will gain insights into the Sikh perspective on the Divine, the world around us, and the purpose of life. Discover why Sikhs place significant emphasis on their external identity, including the significance behind the 5Ks and turban. Explore the history, culture, and values that inspire Sikhs, driving many to serve and defend their local communities. Gain understanding into the motivations behind the migration of Sikhs to Canada and the enduring legacy of Sikh heritage in this country. This session offers a unique opportunity to delve into the heart of Sikhi and its profound impact on individuals and communities worldwide.
The event will be hybrid with participants being able to join virtually through Zoom or in-person in Room N018 at the Daniel J. Patterson campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The Zoom link will be provided to participants attending virtually closer to the event date.
