On May 16, Bonnie Heslop interviewed NC’s Vice President, Academic, Fiona Allan on CKTB to discuss the unique educational partnership between Niagara College, Niagara Catholic, and Notre Dame College School to expand local capacity for skilled trades training to help meet the urgent need for trades workers in the region.
Allan describes how this summer, NC Carpentry students will get gain a hands-on learning experience while training at the Launch Centre. “We are thrilled we’re able to co-locate and be a partner and expose the community to skilled-trades training,” she said.
When asked what sets this partnership apart, Allan says, “We feel like we’re just scratching the surface and think there are a lot of opportunities for collaborative programming with the high school. We’re also looking at different pathways for students who might need a nontraditional pathway to a career so we’re very excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and some of the innovative ways we can approach teaching and training in the trades.”
