Dipal Patel: Returning NCSAC President

NCSAC President Dipal Patel attends NC’s Gala on April 6
Dipal Patel is a double NC graduate, having completed both the Exercise Science for Health and Performance (2022) and Autism and Behavioral Science (2023) programs. Originally from India, she moved to Canada in 2021 after earning her undergraduate degree in occupational therapy.
Prior to first being elected as NCSAC President in 2023, Patel previously served as the NCSAC Director of Community Services, Director of Justice and Fitness and as the Student Representative on the NC Board of Governors (2022-2023). She has also served on NC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce and Sexual Violence Taskforce and has completed good governance training with Colleges Ontario to enhance her ability to advocate for students.
InsideNC caught up with Patel, who reflected on her first term as NCSAC President as she also looks ahead to her next leadership term.
Q: What are you most proud of from your first year as President?
A: In September 2023, NCSAC successfully implemented the student U-Pass after the student referendum passed in March. It has been a really great transition with more than 7,400 students registered on the transit app. Implementation of U-Pass has enabled students to travel to campus in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.
NCSAC also implemented ownership linkage planning* to hear directly from students through surveys and in-person conversations. During the start of my presidency last year, one of my major goals was to hear student voices throughout the year, and we have been able to do that, which makes me extremely happy and satisfied.
*Ownership linkage planning is the communication link between NCSAC, the NCSAC Board and the NC membership (NC students).
Q: What are you most looking forward to in your second year as President?
A: During my second term as NCSAC President, I am hoping to work on the projects that NCSAC has been looking into to improve the quality of life on campus for NC students. I also look forward to more collaboration with Niagara College and its various departments to make sure that current and future students can enjoy student life at its best.
I also want to ensure that student voices continue to be heard throughout my second term as President and I look forward to having an increased NCSAC presence at the provincial and federal levels to advocate for students, especially with the changing dynamic of post-secondary education.
