Since 2014, NC professor John Bauer and his family have been honouring the memory of his daughter Miranda who lost a courageous battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, at the age of 17. Through their Making More Miracles fundraiser, the Bauer family has committed to supporting pediatric cancer research to help spare other families from the same pain and loss they experienced.

“Miranda was 17 years old with a brilliant future in front of her,” said Bauer. “Research is the only way to find an answer so other families do not experience the pain we have felt because of the loss of our girl. Our funds support research in discovering kinder, gentler treatments for childhood cancer, and ultimately a cure.”

Miranda’s passion for making a difference was evident in her own fundraising efforts, such as the Celebration of Miracles event in 2012, where she played a pivotal role in raising over $10,000. Additionally, Miranda participated in SickKids campaigns such as Together We Will and You Got It, where all proceeds were donated to pediatric cancer research at SickKids hospital.

Continuing Miranda’s legacy, this year’s fundraiser will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at John Michael’s Banquet Hall. The evening will include a dinner, trivia games, live entertainment, a wine pull, a silent auction, and raffle items.

Last year’s sold-out event raised a record $20,000. This contribution adds to the approximate total of $175,000 raised for SickKids since the fundraiser’s inception in 2012.
