On January 18, Conservative Member of Parliament for Niagara Falls Tony Baldinelli visited Niagara College’s Welland Campus to share his expertise and knowledge with students from the School of Justice and Fitness.

MP Baldinelli, whose visit to the College aligned with his winter break from Parliament, spoke to students taking LAWS1105, a course about the Canadian Justice System. Most students in the class are preparing for careers in policing, customs border services and security, so hearing from an elected government official with years of experience on Parliament Hill was a valuable opportunity.

“It was our pleasure to welcome Member of Parliament Mr. Tony Baldinelli to our class. He provided students with a firsthand account of the work and life of a Member of Parliament,” said NC Instructor Sal Basilone, who invited MP Baldinelli into his classroom.

“The students have been learning about the roles and responsibilities of MP’s in Ottawa, and MP Baldinelli’s visit provided additional context and a real life perspective that added to the student experience. His visit was very much appreciated by the students and I.”

During his discussion, MP Baldinelli provided information on Parliamentary and House of Commons operations and shared the process for how government legislation is introduced. He answered questions around what it is like to be part of an election and spoke about party leadership and interaction.

When asked to reflect on the best part about his role, MP Baldinelli shared that meeting and helping constituents within his riding (Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie) and attending local community events, is his favourite part.
