The Minister of Long-term Care got an inside look at how Niagara College educates the health care workers of tomorrow.
On the afternoon of October 20, Minister of Long-Term Care Stan Cho visited NC’s Welland Campus where he toured the College’s nursing and Personal Support Worker lab spaces, and met with administrators and students – including first-term PSW students who are currently studying in the classroom and lab settings, and will have placements in long-term care next semester.
President Sean Kennedy; Vice President Academic Fiona Allan; Vice President International Sean Coote; Vice President Research, Innovation and Strategic Enterprises Marc Nantel; Associate Dean, School of Nursing and PSW, Courtney Evers; and Director of Government Relations Mabel Watt were among those involved with the visit.
As the new Minister of Long-term Care in Ontario (which was announced in early September) , Cho chose NC as the first postsecondary institution to visit since becoming a minister to broaden his knowledge of training opportunities that support the long-term care sector.
Evers noted that it was an opportunity to showcase state-of-the-art clinical education technology within the School of Nursing and PSW, including demonstrations of high-fidelity simulation and virtual reality programs.
“It was an honour to host Minister Cho and showcase our phenomenal nursing and PSW students, team, programs, and state-of-the-art learning environment,” said Evers. “Our team was incredibly proud to show Minister Cho how Niagara College is preparing exceptional future nurses and Personal Support Workers for the health care setting, including long-term care.”
