June 15 marked a milestone for the Community Integration Through Cooperative Education (CICE) program, as its 100th student crossed the stage.
Twenty two students graduated from CICE on the morning of June 15, which was the largest cohort of the program to date.
Jessica Berecz, Manager, Academic Portfolio CICE, noted that the CICE program started with humble beginnings during the Winter of 2017, with six students graduating in June 2018.
“Since then, the program has truly flourished thanks to our graduates’ tremendous dedication to success and their accomplishments, and who have shared their success stories far and wide,” said Berecz. “As a result, the demand for our program has increased, with program intakes now seeing up to 20 students in a cohort.”
NC’s two-year Ontario College Certificate CICE program is designed to provide individuals with disabilities and other significant learning challenges the opportunity to experience college life and enhance their employability, academic and social skills.
Berecz noted that CICE graduates take many different paths when they graduate, where they apply the skills, they have enhanced while in the CICE program.
“Some go on to other Niagara College programs, some move into successful paid employment, and some use the strengths and abilities they have developed to participate in community-based initiatives,” she said.
The 100th graduate milestone was not only a celebration for Niagara College, but more so for 100 students who have now crossed the stage, noted Berecz.
“We are so proud of all our graduates and look forward to continuing to receive updates about their accomplishments as Niagara College graduates,” she said.
