A message from David Atherton, Dean, Academic and Liberal Studies, and Beth Bracken, Associate Dean, Academic Studies:
Academic and Liberal Studies is pleased to welcome Helen Tran to our team as a Communications professor.
Helen Tran is a poet, novelist, and award-winning journalist at both a provincial and national level. She has taught at Niagara College for almost seven years and is thrilled to be joining the Communications department as a full-time professor.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, a Master of English, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her poetry, short fiction, and articles have been published in numerous newspapers, literary magazines and anthologies throughout Canada.
Outside of the classroom, Helen is an adventurous soul – she enjoys hiking and photography (particularly sunsets), travelling, conducting investigations for local papers, and contributing to many community causes and events. She is passionate about upholding diversity and inclusion, mentoring emerging writers, and using her platform as a writer/journalist to bring awareness to important community issues such as mental health, access to healthcare, and social justice.
Please join us in congratulating Helen!
