At their annual holiday celebration, the Niagara Home Builders Association (NHBA) named Niagara College as the 2022 recipient of the Nick Basciano Company of the Year Award.

Held at the Holiday Inn Convention Centre in St. Catharines on Dec. 7, NC was hailed for playing “pivotal role in shaping the youth of today and into the trades of tomorrow.”

CEO of the NHBA Chuck McShane acknowledged NC’s role in advocating for training to address gaps in the skilled trades. In spring 2022, NHBA received $1.2 million in funding from the provincial government through the Skills Development Fund for a partnership with the NC. In 2023, over 80 students will be placed in residential construction jobs in Niagara, leveraging skills from a customized Construction Skills Certificate of Completion program.

McShane also recognized new programs in NC’s School of Trades, which include a Construction and Maintenance Electrician program and a General Carpenter program – both areas of great demand in industry.

Jeff Murrell, Dean of NC’s School of Trades, accepted the award on behalf of the College and thanked the NHBA.

“On behalf of Niagara College, we want to thank the NHBA for their partnership and advocacy,” said Murrell. “Many thanks goes to the faculty and staff from the School of Trades for their hard work and dedication to bring this project to life.”
