Week two of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games is here, and NC’s Athletics team rallied to take the Welland Campus gym from basketball to volleyball as the College begins to host men’s and women’s teams from across Canada, Aug. 16 to 21.

“It was as simple as raising the basketball nets, putting up the volleyball net, and moving the score table forward a little,” said Jaclyn-Rae Tanguay, NCSAC Student Services Manager and Canada Games Liaison/Fit-Out Lead.

In her role, Tanguay is responsible for ensuring the physical space at NC meets all the Canada Games requirements for this level of competition.

Tanguay explains that the transition from basketball to volleyball was seamless, a testament to the fact that NC’s gymnasium meets all the requirements necessary for a high-profile event like the Canada Games.

“Other venues had a much larger flip to do but we were pretty spoiled here at NC,” said Tanguay, who explained that there are certain minimum requirements for Canada Games basketball and volleyball venues including 15825 square feet of hardwood court space, 42 foot ceilings, bleachers equipped for over 700 spectators, and more.

In addition to daily preliminary matches, NC will host the women’s qualifying match on Friday, Aug. 19 at 4 p.m., as well as the men’s final on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
