On April 19, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Monte McNaughton, announced $1.2 million in funding to help address a shortage of skilled tradespeople in Niagara and the Niagara Dailies covered the announcement. The funding will allow for a partnership between NC and the Niagara Homebuilders Association to help train more skilled trades workers for jobs as roofers and drywall installers.

The coverage includes a comment from NC President Sean Kennedy who notes how the funding will “help bridge the gap between young people who are underemployed who need that extra pathway to help fill that gap that’s so critical in our local workforce.”

NC Director of Communications Michael Wales mentions that the funded program will receive its first intake in June 2022.
