Appearing in several Postmedia publications, writer Wayne Newton’s Nov. 12 Brews News column includes comments from NC Brewmaster Jon Downing.

In the article, Newton writes about IPA style beers and how they lend themselves to different variations. On IPAs Downing notes, “IPAs continue to be the market leaders so attaching those three letters with another style of beer such as lager will certainly get attention, and with the surge in popularity of craft lagers it is certainly timely.”

The piece mentions how NC students have brewed an IPA crossover called India Pale Lager, featuring a “fruity and bold hop character from German hops such as Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria.”

Downing also comments on “cold beers” noting, “Calling any beer cold will similarly garner attention. Cold aged, filtered, hopped, brewed have all been used in the past by brewers when marketing their beers.”
