The Hamilton Spectator featured a piece on Culinary Team Canada, a group of top chefs who will represent Canada in an Olympic-style event that takes place every four years with over 50 countries competing.
The team will practice at The Aurora Armoury, home to the newest campus of Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute (CFWI). Craig Youdale, Dean of the CFWI explains that the team of chefs will come together from coast to coast three times a year to practice their skills at the Armoury, and exploring what Aurora has to offer.
NC’s Olaf Mertens, a chef professor for the CFWI, will serve as one of the team’s lead coaches, and two accomplished NC alumni, Vaishnav Myekar and Hannah Bowering, are also competing on the team
Myekar had glowing remarks about his experience at NC, saying: “Niagara College has been the greatest experience for me in Canada. All the connections and networking I have been able to make since studying and graduating from Niagara College has been incredibly rewarding. I can’t express how excited I am to be a part of the team and to be able to call Aurora Armoury the home base for the next few years for Team Canada’s practice.”
