Partnership between Niagara College and the CFUW St. Catharines blossoms in support of students.
With the help of staff, faculty and students at Niagara College, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) St. Catharines raised over $21,000 for student scholarships.
CFUW St. Catharines marked their 100th anniversary campaign with a virtual garden tour filmed by NC’s Peter ‘Dutch’ Vandenberg, professor in the School of Media Studies, and Carly Root, coordinator, President’s Office.
“It has been our pleasure to partner with you and your students,” said Maureen Shantz, president of the CFUW. “The quality of work is great.”
The partnership garnered interest from local media. In The St. Catharines Standard, co-chair Barbara Legg is quoted: “Our partnership with Niagara College made this possible through the expertise and commitment of students and staff of the Broadcasting, Radio, Television and Film department. We are beyond grateful.”
Although NC students were not permitted to help with filming due to COVID-19 restrictions, third-year Broadcasting student Parween Taheri and recent graduate Sarah Cedeno helped with editing the footage.
Despite limited resources, over 850 people attended the online event which featured the gardens of seven Niagara homes livestreamed on YouTube with the help of NC.
“I’m very proud that the virtual garden tour turned out to be a success and that we could help CFUW raise quite a bit of money for their scholarships, which NC students benefits from,” said Vandenberg.
NC’s Paul Zammit, professor in the School of Environmental and Horticulture, took part as one of two distinguished guest speakers.
