Niagara College’s Research Ethics Board (REB) is currently seeking new members. Employees with relevant expertise in the areas of research content, methodology, and ethics are encouraged to apply. REB membership is open to Niagara College faculty, support staff, managers, associate deans and associate directors. A term on the REB lasts two years, and is renewable.

The REB meets quarterly by teleconference or in-person (dependant on provincial and public health guidelines) and members are expected to participate in delegated reviews of research.

The REB’s main role is to ensure research at Niagara College is conducted with the highest ethical standards by reviewing the ethical acceptability of all research involving humans conducted within the College or under its auspices by their faculty, staff or students, regardless of the location of the research. The REB is responsible for ensuring that the physical safety and personal integrity of all human participants in research are respected and protected. The REB promotes the ethical conduct of research and adheres to the federal mandate, Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2).

The REB reports to the College president and has the authority to approve, reject, and propose modifications to or terminate any proposed or ongoing research involving human participants.

If you are interested in becoming a REB member, please email your CV/resume and a cover letter outlining how you meet the criteria to [email protected] by August 1, 2021.

We thank all those who apply but please note, only applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted.

The Niagara College Research Ethics Board plays a critical role in the advancement and development of Niagara College and our research projects. Thank you to all our past, current and future REB members for your hard work and dedication to ensuring all Niagara College research is conducted in a professional and ethical manner.
