A message from Dawit Eshetu, Associate Dean, Bachelor Degrees & Graduate Programs, School of Business & Management Studies:
It is with mixed feelings that I announce the retirement of Barrie Tober. After 35 committed years of service to the College and the School of Business, Barrie Tober is retiring on June 30, 2020. Barrie found her love for teaching in January of 1985 as a sessional faculty at Niagara College. Two years later, she moved to work in the Innovation Centre as a business development officer for two years, and in January of 1997 finally realized her dream of full-time teaching.
In her own words: “I could not have imagined a different career path for me. I have seen the College grow and change quite a lot over the past 35 years. The students are what made the job so amazing. And I have met many great faculty and staff here at NC and I know I will have a lifetime of friendship with some.”
Barrie has an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Windsor, a CPA, CMA designation, and a Masters of Accountancy degree from Brock University. Outside of the College, she has held positions on numerous boards. Barrie was treasurer for Fonthill Preschool and AK Wigg Public School, treasurer and president of Aereo Gymnastics club, she was the founding president of the Small Business Club Niagara, and she recently stepped down after six years as the treasurer for South Niagara Rowing Club. Barrie’s scholarly activities include co-authoring an accounting textbook.
I am grateful for Barrie’s contribution in general, but particularly for her role as a Coordinator of the Accounting programs for the past 15 years. Her dedication and advocacy for students has made a huge difference. Barrie, may you get the best of everything in life! You made this a great place to work! I know you plan to do some traveling with your husband, but I hope that you’ll visit us when you have time.
