St. Catharines native Crystal Vella, alumna from NC’s Environmental Management and Assessment graduate certificate program (2013), was featured by Bernie Puchalski in BPSN for her volunteer work as sustainability committee chair of the Canada Summer Games Niagara 2021. Vella works as a business performance analyst in Walker Industries’ environmental division.
Her goal? To help reduce the overall footprint of the Games. The sustainability committee will be made up of 15 volunteers who will focus on topics including: reducing the impact of travel for athletes and spectators to and from the Games; energy used to power the Games’ facilities; and waste management, organics and recycling at the event.
