A group of alumni from NC’s Game Development program made the Niagara Dailies for the March launch of their first video game to online gaming platform Steam.
John Law writes that “The Fallen” began as a student project at NC two years ago and has already been downloaded thousands of times.
The medieval adventure game centres around a knight’s quest to reclaim his honour. Graduates Andrew Chiarelli, Philip Ellis, Andres Coimbra and Emma Perretta – under the name 6 Pillars Studio – began production as part of their capstone project, and finished the game using NC’s facilities the summer after graduation.
Castedo highlights the importance of experiential learning, saying, “When employers look at applications, they care more about what you’ve done.”
Linda Roote, associate dean of NC’s School of Media Studies, says the game is a “testament” to the program. She says, “The Fallen’ is an example to all students that when they apply the skills and knowledge they gain through their studies … they can achieve their dreams.”
Back in October, a sneak peak of the game trailer was displayed at the Marilyn I. Walker Centre of Exellence in Visual Arts and Technology. Although the official launch scheduled for late March was cancelled due to COVID-19, more folks staying home could drive more interest than ever to their game.
