Manager of Community Employment Programs & Services, Rebecca Nicholls, provided insight into the state of the current job market in Niagara in this article in the Niagara Dailies.
The piece highlights the current challenges in the labour market as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicholls highlights that while overall employment opportunities are low, there are still some employers who are in need. She highlights some work-from-home call centre positions, a small mix of permanent and temporary jobs available in retail, data collection and nursing homes, new roles as delivery drivers, as well as seasonal demand in agriculture.
Although NC’s Community Employment Services (CES) office in St. Catharines is closed, their staff continue to offer community support remotely to both job-seekers and employers. Nicholls says that they’ve received proactive inquiries from employers about government wage subsidies and incentives to assist with hiring once the essential services list is expanded.
