The Niagara Dailies covered a fundraising event for International Women’s Day, March 8, featuring female student brewers and alumni from Niagara College’s Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program. Richard Hutton covered the event at the Teaching Brewery in which students and alumni crafted a special beer in collaboration with local Niagara brewers, and as part of the Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day.
Part-time faculty member Lauren Zimbalatti and Brewmaster alumna (2016) talk about the challenges women face in the male-dominated industry. Funds raised through the sale of Rosé Wellies will go towards a new scholarship for female Brewmaster students to take part in networking opportunities at conferences. It will be sold at the Brewery retail store and on-tap at Benchmark Restaurant.
NC’s Head Brewmaster John Downing says, “The college is behind this 100 per cent. We want to promote women in the industry.”
