Local reporters Satbir Singh and Sarah Fergusen with Niagara This Week covered the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) Technological Skills Competition held at Niagara College on February 26. Their coverage of the event included interviews with NC’s Phil Hayes, associate director, Recruitment; Jill Russell, technology consultant with the DSBN; and high school student competing in a variety of the skills challenges.

Singh highlighted the career exploration, soft skills, and experiential learning that were part of the competition, attended by over 200 high school students from 17 schools in the region.

Hayes commented that the competition is a great way for students to get a feel for post-secondary, particularly the chance to interact with and receive mentorship from faculty at NC. Also noted is NC’s commitment to Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) scholarships, as many of the competing students are part of this specialized curriculum.
