Welland City Council honoured Niagara College president Dan Patterson at its February 4 Council meeting, as Mayor Frank Campion presented the Key to the City to the longtime College and community leader.
In its presentation, City Council noted that Patterson was a visionary in modernizing the Welland Campus into a state-of-the-art facility and a front-runner for the Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (WAMIC). Due to his collaborative approach to hands-on learning, the City of Welland was able to work with WAMIC faculty and students to better assist investors in establishing sophisticated industries throughout the city.
“I have enjoyed working with Dr. Patterson over the past several years,” said Mayor Frank Campion. “He created and maintained an excellent working relationship with us, which assisted our economic development efforts. His leadership at the college resulted in dynamic growth in programming and facilities at the Welland Campus that provided excellent employment and educational opportunities for our community. On behalf of City Council and staff, I wish Dr. Patterson the very best in his retirement.”
At the meeting, a plaque was also presented to Patterson from Welland community members Joe Barkovich and Paul Turner, who recognized and thanked Patterson for the leadership and dignity he had given the community over his 25 years as College president.
