The St. Catharine Standard’s Chris Dube covered NC’s annual Dress to Impress event at the Welland Campus, in which College staff and faculty donate business clothing for students to make a lasting impression on prospective employers during their job search, co-ops and internships.
Dube speaks with Educational Assistant student Priscilla Chelinga who hails from Brazil, who explains that the new clothes is a self-esteem booster, especially during the stress of exams. Acting for Film and Television student Hasrat Sood says the event is helpful to her as a student on a fixed income.
Part of NC’s Career Month, career consultant Venessa Magneyn says that Dress to Impress gets students ready for the Career Fair, an event that attracts around 50 employers over the course of four days.
Magney said, “We want to make sure the students are putting their best foot forward and have appropriate networking attire.”
Dress to Impress runs at both campuses. The event at the Daniel J. Patterson campus at Niagara-on-the-Lake takes place on January 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
