Israeli news site, CTech consulted NC’s Al Unwin, associate dean in the School of Environmental and Horticultural Studies. While the Israeli cannabis industry is presently focus on medical cannabis, they have a keen interest in studying how the Canadian industry has emerged to focus on recreational users.
Unwin describes the present challenges and opportunities in Ontario’s provincial cannabis industry, from retail to production. The struggles, Unwin posits, are a result of the industry being so new and will improve with time.
Unwin discusses NC’s vision of their ventures into cannabis education, particularly the one-year Commercial Cannabis Production graduate program. NC wanted to establish a program that met industry demand for skilled people, as well as students genuine interest in the industry. The article notes NC’s growing license for research purposes. Unwin explains the potential for the College to one day have a cannabis retail presence, just as it does with beer, wine, honey, and vegetables.
