Food is about bringing people together.
That’s what students in NC’s Bachelor of Business Administration – Hospitality program aim to do with a heritage culinary event honouring the traditions and ingredients of Indigenous people on November 11 at the Teaching Greenhouse at NC’s Niagara-in-the-Lake campus.
The Indigenous Ingredient event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and feature a variety of taster portions, including mushrooms, spinach and cranberry Salad, three sister soup, wild rice, venison stew, strawberry drink, and bannock and blueberry jam.
“The culinary indigenous event will allow students direct, hands-on engagement with academic course content,” said Osvaldo Avila, professor in the Hospitality, Tourism & Sport program. “The event gives students the chance to reflect on their experiences as they develop practical skills and better understand themselves in relation to the communities, both local and global.”
Tasters will be on sale for $3 each. Proceeds from the event will be donated in support of NC’s United Way campaign.
