Dave Johnson reporting for The Welland Tribune covered second-year students in the NC’s Fitness and Health Promotion program who tried their hands at both bocce and goalball, two sports that will be included in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The activity was part of a class called special population taught by professor Jodi Steele which seeks to prepare students for their future roles as personal trainers, physiotherapists or chiropractors who may work to design exercise programs for individuals who may suffer from multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, arthritis, and cancer among others.

Steele sought to give her students a simulated experience with two of the most popular Paralympic sports to give them an idea of what it feels like to play them. Students who played bocce used wheelchairs, representing those who have cerebral palsy, and players of goalball donned goggles to block their sight, representing those with visual impairments.
