The Welland Tribune’s Dave Johnson covered the Burn cell demonstration held at NC’s Welland Campus as part of fall orientation activities. The controlled burn of a mock bedroom, overseen by Welland Fire and Emergency Services, gave students the chance to see first-hand how quickly fire can spread in a room. From the time the fire was lit by NC SAC president Tom Price, to three minutes and twenty-one seconds later, the room was engulfed in flames and reached a scorching 600 degrees Celsius.
The demonstration stressed the importance of working smoke detectors, as most fires happen overnight while most people are sleeping.
The coverage includes a video of the burn.
