Bringing the semester to a very satisfying end, the students of the Sales and Marketing program, led by their professor Neil Thornton, collected donations for local charity Community Care.
More than 90 students, as well as some members of faculty, brought a food item, clothing or toy to donate on the last day of class for winter term.
“Once again, NC leads the way, as faculty and students work to support a local charity, something bigger than all of us and contribute to the community,” said Damian Goulbourne, associate dean, School of Business and Management. “Neil, faculty and students of the Sales and Marketing program, cooperated with a local non-profit leader Betty-Lou Souter to do good for those in need, while learning at the same time, how to apply the fundamentals of sales in a real life situation through work integrated learning.”

A large percentage of the St. Catharines population accesses services provided by Community Care, from housing, shelter and food, to sports and utilities.
“This donation will make an incredible difference to the people of Community Care. Thank you for demonstrating that you really care for those struggling to make ends meet!” said Betty-Lou Souter, CEO – Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.
“At the end of the term, when exams are in full gear, it is always inspirational and powerful to see the full class come together to support those in our community that are less fortunate than we are,” said Thornton. “I am extremely proud of this class this term as we set record amounts of support for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.”
Thornton noted that this was the largest volume he has experienced; the donations amounted to an estimated $1,500.
