Cogeco’s Your TV filmed a segment at the Pen Pal Social at the Heidehof Home for the Aged in St. Catharines where NC students and Heidehof residents celebrated the end of the Pen Pal Project. The initiative was part of NC’s Recreation Therapy program where students and Heidehof residents exchanged letters over the course of four weeks. Professor Jackie Frail is interviewed, explaining that students wrote on passion, gratitude, happiness and connection in an attempt to examine the link between writing and improved mood and well-being.
Heather Vokey, manager of Life Enrichment at Heidehof, discusses the impact of the Pen Pal Project on residents. Host Mitchell Glass also interviews NC students Randeane McLelland, Amanda Rollo and Jenn Tweedy about their experiences, as well as Heidehof residents Ernesto Natale and Yvette Bartkiw who participated in the letter exchange.
