Nimisha Sumathi (co-curricular recognition program coordinator, Centre for Student Engagement) and Leadership) and Marsha Fiorino (co-op career consultant and employer support, Career Services) collect donations in preparation for the Dress to Impress clothing giveaway.

That rarely worn clothing in your closet could help a student land a job.

Staff members in Career Services are collecting donations of gently used business clothing for NC’s Dress to Impress clothing giveaway. Clothing and accessories may be dropped off at the Welland Campus (SE 101) or the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus (W115). The donation period been extended until January 25 (formerly January 22).

Employees are encouraged to donate gently used, laundered professional clothing that students may wear to meet with employers – including suits, pants, dresses, skirts, shirts, as well as shoes, purses and accessories like jewellery and scarves. Items such as shoes and accessories that can help complete an outfit are in particular demand according to career consultant Monique Morin, who is collecting donations at the Welland Campus.

The donations are being collected in advance of the Dress to Impress clothing giveaway which will take place at the NOTL Campus on January 29 and at the Welland Campus on January 30. The clothing giveaway events will give students an opportunity to pick up free professional attire before they meet with potential employers at the College’s career fairs in early February.

The event aims to help alleviate the financial challenge for students that can come with investing in professional attire to wear to job interviews or networking opportunities.

Interested in donating?

Drop off donations at the Welland Campus in SE 101 (Monique Morin), or at the NOTL Campus in W115 (Marsha Fiorino) before Jan. 25.

Make sure the clothing is laundered and free of pet hair and odour. Clothing may be donated in bags/boxes or on hangers (for those who have hangers to donate).
